Information Assurance Courses

There are just some things that are necessary if you are taking any online class that requires a lot of technical labs. Information Assurance and Security courses typically have labs and assignments. Here are some things that really helped me with my online classes at Boston University.

1. Dual Monitors

I upgraded from one 19″ monitor to two 23 Asus Monitors. At the time they were only $190 bucks each. I really needed them for my labs for my database class. When I was doing my labs I would have my assignment up, visio, SQL client, and the browser open. It’s much easier with 2 big monitors.

2. VMWare

Virtualization is amazing and necessary in some cases. In for digital forensics course, I used VMWare Workstation to load my Digital Forensics Virtual Machine. Also I will be using a virtual machine to create LAMP setup for my web applications class. Being able to create virtual machines for each class will help you from junking up your host OS.

3. UPS

Within the last three months we’ve had power outages. On one of them occasions I was in the middle of my final lab where I lost most of my work. This could of been easily avoided if I just had a UPS. I bought a pricey one, but the cost of redoing a lab is a lot more than the cost of a UPS.
